MALSONS: A NEW AGE CONTENT STUDIO AND MEDIA TECH COMPANY
Malsons is a new-age content studio and media tech company. One of its main business units, Black Magic Music, an independent music label committed towards new artist recruitment, development and music publishing has now been absorbed under the parent company.
Malsons has been established by Shivam Malhotra, 27, an already seasoned entrepreneur with a six-year stint in the US where he studied at USC and subsequently worked for leading Hollywood production companies like Walter Parkes + Laurie MacDonald Productions and Captivate Entertainment. He was one of the early hires in the content team of Snapchat in 2015.
” Shivam says, Our primary goal is to empower our creators and artists. I believe in creating IPs that are valuable, sustainable and hard to imitate, thereby building unique concepts and projects around our talent every single time.”
In a conversation with the Business Connect, recalling the challenges and low points that the company faced, Shivam states, “Of course, I had both! (laughs) One of the biggest challenges was my age and being taken seriously because of it, but I soon turned it into an advantage – I am in the same age group as the majority of our consumers and knowing that gives me intuitiveness in understanding market needs.”
SOME ACHIEVEMENTS SINCE THE INCEPTION OF MALSONS
- Executed over 450 artist performances in the last 12 months.
- Released an IP called Electro Folk with T – Series.
- Recruited multiple new artists across genres of music and language (you will hear them soon!)
- The biggest milestone has been bringing back the culture of live music in Mumbai. Bars like JLWA, Su Casa, South Bombay Bar, etc. are all packed beyond capacity because of Malsons’ live music events & artists.
The future looks great. Malsons plans to diversify their live music business into creating original content with talent from around the world.They have just locked a multi-year library deal. Malsons’ US office gives them leverage to bring some A-listed artists to India where top live companies want Malsons to further curate and program their popular offerings.
Malsons also launched a content development studio earlier this year with a focus on features films, television and documentaries – it’s unique in its structuring as the division is IP focused only. Shivam says, “We’ve been lucky to have some of India and America’s leading talent attached to our IPs, and we have exciting projects in the works with a popular international streaming platform.
