Panchakarma Treatment & How Can It Help You

Panchakarma Treatment & How Can It Help You

The definition of health, as per Ayurveda, is the state of normalcy of Dosha, Dhatu, Agni, and Malakriya. And it doesn’t leave behind Atma (soul), Indriya (sense organs), and Manas(mind).  It goes against the modern-day definition which says health is the state of not having disease.

Ayurveda further says that there are three doshas of the body, Vata, Pita, Kapha, which broadly stand for the neurological system, metabolic system, and nutritive system, keeping the human body in balance. Whenever there is a disturbance between these doshas, a disease may show up. The primary goal of the Ayurvedic therapy method is to return the doshas to their natural condition of harmony. Ayurveda has recommended specific regimens and treatment techniques, including Panchakarma, Rasayana-Vajikarana, Vega Adharana, and Dinacharya, in order to attain the same results.

Panchakarma is a traditional method of healing and rejuvenation that guides a person on a journey of self-discovery, cleansing, and awakening of their healing senses and energies. Along with other ancient medicinal teachings still used today in India, the procedures of panchakarma therapy are documented in the thousands of years old Vedic writings.

These Ayurvedic methods still hold value in the present era because they are based on the notion that harmony and balance may be maintained in the mind, body, and spirit by the consumption of the correct foods, medicines, and breathing techniques.

What is Panchakarma Treatment?

Panchakarma is a method of purifying the body of all excess waste and lubricating it. Panchakarma means Five(panch) procedures(karma).

This five-step panchakarma technique detoxifies the body by drawing out the toxins that have accumulated over time as a result of unhealthy eating habits, disease, and environmental pollution. The Panchakarma techniques restore a person’s natural ability to heal and enhance their quality of life. One may cure the body and spirit from inside and reach total wellness by combining these healing techniques with yoga and meditation.

Actually, the panchakarma therapy method is based on the idea that the body has the innate ability to cure itself and free itself of impurities. However, a number of things, including a bad diet, smoking, drinking alcohol, and putting in long hours at the office, cause this capacity to deteriorate. Some diseases or genetic pre-condition may also be the reason for the body’s inability to maintain the right functioning of the body.

Here are two basic principles of Panchakarma:

Panchakarma involves two sets of therapies- Oleation and Fomentation.

Oleation

In oleation therapies, oil or oily substance is applied on the body. These oils are made from many home-grown mineral ingredients and meant for external use only. Besides oil, ghee is also applied on the body. These fatty materials reach deeper tissues and help in carrying the therapeutic agents to every cell of the body. This loosens up the toxins trapped in the cells.

Fomentation

Fomentation therapies are those that cause sweating. As a first step, the tissues are softened by oleation treatment and then they are even made softer with fomentation. The procedure liquefies the deep-seated toxins and flush them out of the body.

How It can Help You

The majority of illnesses can be stopped before they enter the body using Ayurvedic and Panchakarma treatments. The build-up of toxins at dangerous levels may be avoided by doing Panchakarma’s detoxification and cleaning procedures on a regular basis. Ayurveda identifies any bodily imbalances and corrects them using its methods and remedies.

Ayurvedic Panchakarma therapy might assist patients who are already dealing with a severe physical problem or disease in managing their condition. The following are a few conditions for which panchakarma has been shown to be helpful.

  1. Respiratory issues: such as a cold, cough, allergies, or asthma
  2. Cardiac issues:  include hypertension and abnormal blood flow
  3. Joint illnesses: Gout, spondylitis, and arthritis are common.
  4. Psychological illnesses: such as addiction, depression, sleeplessness, and anxiety
  5. Dermatological conditions: Psoriasis, eczema, hair loss, and skin pustules.
  6. Fertility Problems: PCOS, infertility, irregular periods, cysts and fibromas, and sterility.
  7. Movement Disorders: paralysis or the effects of a cerebral apoplexy
  8. Slipped Discs
  9. Insomnia
  10. Digestive issues

Five Methods of Panchakarma

Vamana: Suitable for those with kapha-dominant bodies who have asthma, obesity, or anxiety.

Virechana: Best for those with pitta dosha who have acidity, jaundice, and skin and intestinal problems.

Nasya: Helps to cleanse the head area of the body and is treated by massaging the head and shoulders with oils and herbs, which provides immediate relief.

Basti: A therapy known as basti involves the enema of herbal oils or elixirs to repair the body and is frequently advised for complex and chronic disorders. One of Panchakarma’s five pradhana karmas, it is utilised to heal vata diseases.

Raktamokshana: This method is used to treat illnesses caused by impure blood. As its name explains, “rakt,” which means “blood,” and “mokshana,” which means “to flee.”

Why Should You Try Panchakarma Therapy?

The fatal load that stress, environmental toxins, and bad lifestyle choices place on the body can lead to disease if it is allowed to build up in the tissues and circulatory system.

Panchakarma reverses this degenerative process quickly, having a considerable and lasting effect. In order to free the body of toxins that have accumulated over time, panchakarma uses a variety of techniques including massage, home-grown saunas, specific diets and dietary guidelines, gentle fasting, and colon treatments.

A comprehensive examination by an Ayurvedic physician serves as the first step in your personal Panchakarma programme, giving the expert the ability to provide a therapy based on the patient’s health. A customised ayurvedic eating regimen with certain medicinal herbs and essential oils will be prescribed to you as your Panchakarma treatments progress.
