Maruti Suzuki Fronx launches in India with a starting price of INR 7.46 lakh

Written by Sanjay Kumar

The long-anticipated Fronx SUV from Maruti Suzuki has been unveiled with a starting price of INR 7.46 lakh for the base Sigma variant, while the top-of-the-line Alpha turbo variant is priced at INR 13.13 lakh. Based on the Baleno, the Fronx made its debut at the Auto Expo and has already received a significant number of bookings. The SUV is offered in five trims: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha, with a choice of two engine options and five colours.

The key feature highlights include the nine-inch Smartplay Pro+ with Arkamys-powered surround sound system, dual-tone interior theme, paddle shifters, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, hill hold assist with rollover mitigation, ABS with EBD, and brake assist.

Here’s a detailed look at the prices of the Maruti Fronx in India:

Variant (1.2L K-Series engine) Price Variant (1.0-litre K-Series Turbo with smart hybrid) Price
Sigma 5MT Rs. 7,46,500 Delta+ 5MT Rs. 9,72,500
Delta 5MT Rs. 8,32,500 Zeta 5MT Rs. 10,55,500

Alpha Dual Tone MT Rs. 11,63,500
Alpha Dual Tone AT Rs. 13,13,500

Inside the Fronx, you’ll notice a striking resemblance to the Baleno hatchback, with the primary highlight being a large free-standing 9-inch touchscreen. However, the compact SUV sets itself apart from the hatchback with distinct colours and textures, featuring black and brown upholstery as opposed to the blue and black found in the hatchback. Additionally, the Fronx features a multi-layered dashboard, with Maruti Suzuki retaining physical controls for the HVAC system.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Engine

Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx is available with two engine options: a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine generates 100hp and 147Nm, coupled with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Notably, the Fronx is currently the sole Maruti Suzuki model that features a turbo-petrol engine. The second option is the brand’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 90bhp and is used in multiple Maruti Suzuki cars. This powertrain comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Rivals

Competing against compact SUVs and crossovers such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger, the Fronx aims to make its mark in the market.
