Waiting for All of Us Are Dead Season 2 has been frustrating, and my favorite K-drama of 2025 so far has only reminded me of how much I miss the Netflix zombie series. While All of Us Are Dead wasn’t the first K-drama about zombies, it brought a fresh take to the genre with its engaging characters and nonstop action.
Though I don’t usually gravitate toward action-packed K-dramas, this one had me hooked from the start. Now, three years later, the lack of updates on Season 2 makes the wait even more difficult.
Finding a true replacement for All of Us Are Dead isn’t easy, despite the abundance of zombie and monster K-dramas. Even popular options like Sweet Home don’t quite capture what made the 2022 show special.
That’s why I was thrilled to discover Newtopia, Jisoo’s latest K-drama. While it’s technically different from All of Us Are Dead, it somehow evokes the same feelings that made me love the zombie series in the first place.
Newtopia Is Fantastic—And It Rekindles My Love for All of Us Are Dead“**
“Newtopia Blends Romance, Comedy, and Zombies in a Unique Way”
A horror-comedy, Newtopia follows Jisoo’s Kang Young-ju and Park Jeong-min’s Lee Jae-yoon as they fight to reunite amidst a zombie apocalypse. The first episode unfolds like a classic romantic comedy, focusing on Jae-yoon and Young-ju’s struggles to maintain a long-distance relationship during his military service.
However, aside from a few hints in the opening sequence and credits, the series doesn’t reveal its true nature as a zombie K-drama until the end of episode 1. The result is a wildly entertaining and hilarious take on the zombie apocalypse.
While Newtopia is primarily a comedy, it treats the zombie outbreak seriously enough to make us care about the characters’ survival and whether the two protagonists will reunite. This approach is somewhat reminiscent of All of Us Are Dead Season 1, which seamlessly shifted between a romantic K-drama featuring two lead couples and an intense action-horror series.
Though Newtopia doesn’t take itself as seriously as All of Us Are Dead, it still places its characters in genuinely life-threatening situations—ones that manage to be both hilarious and terrifying at the same time.
Newtopia Isn’t a Replacement for All of Us Are Dead—But It’s Just as Entertaining”
“Newtopia Has Been an Absolute Blast So Far
While Newtopia may not be the perfect replacement for All of Us Are Dead—especially if you loved the intense action and drama of the Netflix zombie series—it still delivers an incredibly fun experience.
As a hilarious comedy with just the right amount of horror, Newtopia holds its own. Jisoo shines as a compelling protagonist with a rich backstory even before the apocalypse, while Park Jeong-min seamlessly balances both serious and comedic moments, making his character all the more engaging.
Key Information About Newtopia
- Where to Watch: Prime Video
- Total Episodes: 8
- Finale Air Date: March 21, 2025
Like All of Us Are Dead, Newtopia boasts a fantastic ensemble cast, with supporting characters who often steal the spotlight and deliver the show’s funniest moments. Unlike the binge-worthy 12-episode drop of All of Us Are Dead, Newtopia follows a weekly release schedule, making for a different viewing experience. However, each episode ends on a fun cliffhanger that keeps me eagerly anticipating the next one.
Hoping Newtopia Delivers a More Satisfying Ending Than All of Us Are Dead
Will Newtopia Be a Standalone Story or Set Up a Sequel?
With Newtopia set for an eight-episode run, it’s unclear whether the Coupang Play original will be a self-contained K-drama or leave room for a second season. Traditional Korean dramas often wrap up their stories in a single season, while streaming originals are more likely to continue if they prove successful.
Regardless of its future, I hope Newtopia delivers a more satisfying conclusion than All of Us Are Dead Season 1. Instead of providing closure, All of Us Are Dead ended on a cliffhanger, leaving many unanswered questions. Hopefully, Newtopia strikes the right balance between an engaging finale and a fulfilling resolution.
While ending on a cliffhanger can be exciting, the long wait for All of Us Are Dead Season 2—potentially until 2026—makes the Season 1 finale feel frustrating in hindsight. Questions like whether Cheong-san is truly dead and what’s happening with Nam-ra and her new hambie friends remain unanswered, leaving fans in limbo.
All of Us Are Dead set up several major plot points that will only be resolved in its next season. Hopefully, Newtopia will take a different approach by delivering a more definitive ending, even if it leaves room for a potential Season 2.
