COVID-19 EFFECTS ON BUSINESS
The COVID-19 lockdown had a disastrous effect on the industrial spheres, over the globe. Likewise, Global C was hit hard due to the outbreak and lockdown. However, their strong foundation and formidable mentorship played an instrumental role in paving their way to recovery. It kept the team motivated as they emerged through the pandemic, practicing strong standards, with proper technological systems.
Hospitality & Healthcare projects were the most affected verticals in the pandemic. Due to high capital infusion and infrastructure, required to run these sectors, it became a risk for the investor(s), to invest in high operational cost(s) and ensure steady revenue. Furthermore, the hit generated an impact on manpower, manufacturing facilities and service providers that rely on these facilities. Global C wishes to attract Govt. foundations,to respond to these concurrences and come up, with suitable initiatives and alleviate the hit taken by these sectors. Providing tailored initiatives, for the engaged resources, will ensure, large investments of this magnitude don’t turn to dust.
CHALLENGES DURING THE LOCKDOWN
The pandemic has deliberately transited our way of “Normal Life”, as we used to call it. As for organizations, web conferencing and work from home were the features that have helped them sustain. Global C has been primitively associated, with web conferencing, for weekly project coordination Meeting(s), design management & procurement management which involves International & Pan-India stakeholders, designers, consultants and contractor(s), for the past decade. During the lockdown, the digital platform had served a great purpose, towards providing their consultancy solutions. They were also able to secure, projects based on innovative technologies and their performance helped them, standstill as one of the breakthrough Project management company in India.
Furthermore, the lockdown laid down a gargantuan problem in mobilizing suitable manpower. Due to the mass labor emigration during the lockdown, it became a major challenge, for contractors to engage manpower at construction sites, in several states during the last week of April 2020. These also extended delays related to logistics and construction material/machinery in transit, which got stuck due to the pandemic. But, the efforts and guidelines of Govt. of India and the MHA, on sanitation, HSE and PPE, helped them, to stay autonomous. Financial cuts by stakeholders concerning the stoppage of work, containment of claims due to delays and optimizing the remobilization of resources, also helped them in rejuvenating their project(s).
AN INNOVATIVE BUSINESS MODEL
The lockdown has seen the stoppage of operations of a variety of organizations. But even in this chaos, Global C has maintained an indomitable stature. They have innovated to Web Conferencing Platforms like Cisco Webex, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, to conduct review meetings or a tender, procurement review on multiple projects, across all sites. Regular VC (Virtual conferencing) sessions ensured that everyone interacts every day. Tasks were allocated to subordinates and monitored by, the Senior Management / Project Managers to ensure that everyone is engaged, with productive work. The digital platform proved to be a disruptive platform for a few Contractor(s), Supplier(s) &Specialised Sub Contractor(s); On the contrary, the platform helped to create harmony, with everyone.
On another note, they have installed safety measures to ensure the protection of their employees in the pandemic. Utilization of PPE kits/ N95 Masks, sanitization at regular intervals, deployment of minimal staff, restricted in-person meeting(s) at the office, staggered working timelines, provisions for hand sanitizers and social distancing at office and project sites are some of the approaches, that not only safeguarded their resources but also made them more productive and progress-oriented. Further, to keep its employees motivated, the company assisted them financially and morally.
