Reliance Jio has launched the Jio Bharat 4G phone in India with the intention of advancing the company’s vision of achieving a “2G-MUKT BHARAT” (2G-free India). The company has collaborated with Karbonn to launch one of the two models of the Jio Bharat phone, and they have also announced that other brands will soon adopt the “Jio Bharat platform” to develop more affordable phone models. This indicates that we can expect additional brand partnerships with Jio in the future.

The initial batch of Jio Bharat phones, comprising approximately 1 million units, will be available for purchase from July 7, 2023, at various retail stores nationwide.

In terms of appearance, the newly launched Jio Bharat phone resembles a typical feature phone, complete with a keypad and the Bharat branding positioned below the screen. The device includes a rear camera, speakers, and operates as a smart 4G phone.

Additionally, users can enjoy features such as unlimited calls within India, photography capabilities, and the ability to make UPI payments using JioPay. The phone also offers a range of entertainment options, including support for JioCinema, JioSaavan, and FM Radio.

It’s worth noting that two models have been launched. One of them displays the “Jio” brand logo on the back cover, while the other features the “Karbonn” logo. The phone is available in two color options: blue and red.

Jio Bharat plans Unveiled

Reliance Jio has also introduced new Jio Bharat plans, priced at Rs 123 and Rs 1234. The more affordable plan provides a total of 14GB data (0.5GB per day) and unlimited voice calls for a validity period of 28 days. On the other hand, the annual Rs 1234 plan offers a total of 168GB data (0.5GB per day) and unlimited calling benefits.

These plans are specifically tailored for customers who purchase the Jio-branded phone. For the Jio Bharat phone launched in collaboration with other brands (currently only Karbonn), two plans are available: the Rs 179 plan with a validity period of 28 days, and the annual Rs 1799 plan. The benefits provided by these plans are identical to the Jio Bharat plans.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, expressed his thoughts on the launch of the Jio Bharat phones, emphasizing that there are still 250 million mobile phone users in India who are “trapped” in the 2G era, unable to access basic internet features during a time when the world is on the verge of a 5G revolution.
