Concerns Over Ration Distribution Spark Debate
New Delhi: Soon after the BJP formed the government in Delhi, reports have surfaced regarding a possible reduction in ration distribution under the Public Distribution System (PDS). Several beneficiaries have alleged that their monthly ration supply has been affected, leading to concerns among economically weaker sections of society.
Ration Beneficiaries Raise Complaints
Residents from various localities claim they have received less wheat, rice, and sugar than usual. Some ration cardholders have also reported difficulties in accessing their entitled grains due to system glitches and supply delays.
A resident from West Delhi, Vishant Saroj, stated, “Earlier, we used to get the full quantity of ration, but this month, the supply has been inconsistent. Shopkeepers are saying they are not receiving enough stock.”
Government’s Response
Officials from the Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Department, however, have denied any intentional cut in ration distribution. A senior official clarified, “There has been no official reduction in ration supply. If any issues exist, they might be due to logistical challenges, and we are working on resolving them.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP leadership has assured that they are investigating the matter. A party spokesperson stated, “We are committed to ensuring that every eligible household gets its entitled ration. Any disruptions will be addressed immediately.”
Political Reactions
Opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, have strongly criticized the alleged shortage. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “People are now seeing what happens when BJP takes control. Delhi’s poor are suffering due to ration mismanagement.”
The Congress has also demanded an inquiry into the situation, urging the government to provide transparency on the issue.
What’s Next?
While the allegations continue to circulate, authorities are urging people to report ration-related grievances to the helpline of the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The coming weeks will determine whether this is a temporary disruption or a long-term policy shift.
For now, Delhi’s residents await clarity on whether their essential food supply will return to normal soon.
