New Delhi, October 3, 2023 – Delhi and its neighboring regions were jolted by strong tremors today (October 3) following a series of earthquakes in Nepal. The seismic activity began with a 4.6 magnitude tremor, followed closely by a powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake, both occurring at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers.
The initial quake struck Nepal at 2:25 pm, with the second, more powerful tremor occurring at 2:51 pm local time. The National Centre for Seismology swiftly issued a statement, detailing the second earthquake as follows: “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.2, Occurred on 03-10-2023, 14:51:04 IST, Lat: 29.39 & Long: 81.23, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Nepal.”
These seismic events were felt not only in the Nepalese region but also in the Indian capital, Delhi, and its surrounding areas within the National Capital Region (NCR). Reports have emerged of tremors being felt in Uttar Pradesh’s cities, including Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha. Additionally, parts of Uttarakhand experienced seismic activity in the wake of these back-to-back earthquakes in Nepal.
As the tremors reverberated through Delhi, videos emerged on social media platforms, showing people evacuating buildings in a state of alarm.
Further updates on the situation and its impact are awaited as authorities assess the aftermath of these significant tremors.
