79-year-old Parekh will receive the award from President Draupadi Murmu at the 68th National Film Awards on September 30. This is great news for Hindi cinema. Looking at Asha Parekh’s acting, beauty, style, and roles in films, there is no doubt that she deserves this honour. But it is a matter of greater happiness that this honor is being given to an actress after a long time. Yes, after about 22 years, a woman is getting this honor.
She is the second woman after Asha Bhosle to receive the award since the early 2000s. Devika Rani was the first to receive it in 1969, despite the limited representation of women in the roster of award winners. Other lucky women were Ruby Myers (Sulochana)in 1973, Kanan Devi (1976), Durga Khote (1983), and Lata Mangeshkar (1989).
