Jammu & Kashmir update: Security forces kill 3 LeT terrorists in Shopian district; weapons recovered
Security forces killed three terrorists on Tuesday (December 20) in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter began in the early hours of Tuesday (December 20) morning and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have identified the terrorists involved as members of the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (militant Islamist terrorist organization operating against India in Pakistan).
ADGP Kashmir has informed that three terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization have been killed. Two of the three terrorists killed have been identified as Lateef Lone of Shopian and Umar Nazir of Anantnag. Lateef Lone was involved in the murder of a Kashmiri Pandit Puran Krishna Bhat and Umar Nazir in the murder of Til Bahadur Thapa of Nepal. An AK-47 rifle and 2 pistols have been recovered from the terrorists.

According to a police official, security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Munjh Marg in the Zainpora neighborhood of Shopian after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.
The search operation later turned into an encounter, he said. “Three terrorists belonging to the banned terrorist organization Lashkar were killed. Identification is being done. Further details will follow, the Kashmir Zone Police said.

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Munjh Marg area, the official said, adding that 1RR (Rashtriya Rifles), 178 CRPF, and others are on the job.
Security forces carried out a major operation in Shopian last month
Last month (November 11, 2022), a Pakistani terrorist who had taken hostage students in a madrasa was killed by security forces in a major operation in Kapran village of Shopian. The terrorist was identified as Kamran Bhai alias Hanees, who was associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed organization.
Colonel Amron Mousavi, a spokesman of the Army’s 15 Corps, had informed that two 11-year-old students had been taken hostage by Jaish terrorists in Madrasa Darul Uloom Khalid Ibn Waleed of Kapran village. At that time a total of 31 students and three teachers were present in the Madrasa. The security forces ensured that no damage was done to the Madrasa and a nearby mosque during the operation.
The operation was carried out by the Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), police, and 178 battalions of the CRPF. Army spokesman had told that the operation was started at midnight only after receiving information about the hiding of terrorists in the madrasa. The terrorist opened fire on the security forces while trying to escape at around 6:00 in the morning. In retaliation, the security forces killed him. AK-74, 4 magazines, and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
