Sandeep Reddy Vanga on Industry’s Criticism of ‘Animal’: Calls Out Double Standards

Sandeep Reddy Vanga on Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ Criticism: Industry Stays Silent to Maintain Ties
Vanga pointed out that while Animal received backlash, the industry unanimously praised Ranbir, which he believes is because they want to work with him. In a promo for his upcoming interview on Game Changers, he expressed confusion over this double standard.
“Critics from the film industry had harsh things to say about the movie, but everyone agreed Ranbir was brilliant. I’m not jealous of him, but I don’t understand why the director and writer face criticism while the actor gets praised,” he said.
He further explained that actors get more frequent opportunities in films compared to directors, making industry insiders hesitant to criticize them. “Filmmakers take years to make a movie, but actors appear on screen multiple times. So, people are careful about what they say about actors, while it’s easier to criticize directors,” he added.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal faced criticism for its intense violence and alleged misogyny. However, despite the backlash, the film grossed over ₹500 crore at the domestic box office, marking the biggest success of both Ranbir Kapoor and Vanga’s careers. Similarly, his previous film, Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor, also sparked controversy for its portrayal of misogyny.
Currently, Vanga is working on his next project, Spirit, featuring Prabhas. He has also announced a sequel to Animal titled Animal Park.
