Brothers paving & concrete is one of the premier asphalt and concrete providers in the USA. Incorporated in the year 1985, in Virginia, Brothers paving & concrete has the vision to build better communities by investing in and partnering with people as it delivers professional and accurate work. The Company was found by Mr. Paul Battista (Founder and CEO) and is shouldered by a dedicated team of professionals, including Shawn Boyce (Vice president logistics), Ben Taylor (Chief financial officer), Aaron Goss (Chief revenue officer), Jerome Gray (Chief operations officer), and more. Their ambition has always been to be the best contractor in the DC metro area.

At the early stages of inception, the primary focus of the company was on the site work for many of the largest national builders, but as it gained a reputation for quality and integrity, it moved into concrete frame construction, property management, and the HOA market where it has had a stronghold for decades.

After providing tremendous services in the paving market for a decade, in 1997, they split into two separate companies, Brothers concrete construction and Brothers paving & concrete, to explore the market in a more elaborated and efficient way. The Brothers concrete performed large concrete frame projects for a few years and eventually sold to Baker concrete out of Ohio.

Brothers paving has completed thousands of paving & concrete projects across its distinguished region. With continued steady growth in these markets, it has achieved the goal of being the premier concrete and asphalt contractor in the DC Metro area. Enriched with values and ethos.

CHALLENGES THAT HELPS IN GROWTH
It has been a challenge for the Brothers Paving & Concrete to manage the logistics of more than twenty crews with the existing supply chain issues in the market. In addition to managing the B2C relationships, Brothers Paving & Concrete has stimulated over the years in the respective domain. Each of its project drives an exceptional degree of personal care to ensure that it represents them most professionally to their clients. Brothers Paving & Concrete uses Pavement soft to maximize its efficiencies of equipment and labor.

The analytics and R&D tremendously assist in stimulating their growth. “Some of our best growth has come from analytics from internal data,” Mr. Battista adds further. The Company has made special efforts recently to make strategic decisions from those analytic discoveries that have resulted in significant growth.

CONQUERING COMPETITION WITH EXPERTISE
Brothers Paving & Concrete excels at work within homeowners associations, Property management maintenance, and Municipality work. It has created a special niche in servicing its specific customer needs and in addition to larger paving projects, it serves many “Break and replace” small patches scattered throughout the area. The company has a major competitive advantage because of its use of technology. It has created a software system that allows the team to meet these needs in a cost effective manner. It designed and built Pavement Soft from the DNA of the company.

It uses Pavement Soft to manage and organize the business, from start to finish. It keeps everyone in the loop and offers a chance to oversee every project, no matter what phase they are in. The team also asks for reviews through the survey process facilitated by email and the website. This allows in reviewing the survey data and see where and how the company can improve with every more efficiently than many other processes of data collection.

“After invoicing is complete, we send each client a questionnaire seeking feedback and asking what we could have done better. In our continued effort of Good, Better, Best practices we do an analysis of all completed projects. We review proposed versus actual metrics, logistic efficiencies (or not), and look at what we could have done better.” The team of Brothers affirms.

Mr. Battista has a history of putting people first. He has created a safe, comfortable work culture and quality healthcare for his employees (Being one of the first in the respective industry to pay for 100% of its employees’ health care). Education is an essential part of the work culture in the organization. He is participating in the very selective OPM Program at Harvard Business School – a three-year program with months of on-campus activities.

The executive team is relentlessly pushing the envelope on continued education. The officials started Brothers University, an in-house educational platform for all the employees (Which is a remarkable act). They look for employees who fit the culture of Brothers Paving & Concrete. Its employees care about each other, ask about how the families are doing and become sincere friends. The key officials also conduct mid-year and yearly reviews to help improve employee skill sets and offer direction.

MILESTONES AND FUTURE GOALS
In 2019-2020, Brothers Paving & Concrete serviced over 4,100 tons of asphalt within the home city of Manassas. Its determination to serve residents and business owners with high-quality, fair-priced products is unmatched. In numerous instances, Brothers paving & concrete helps local food banks, schools, churches with resources they cannot afford to buy.

Brothers Paving & Concrete puts significant resources of time, energy, and money into creating wholesome neighborhoods. Recently it has offered equipment to schools, support to local softball team leagues, Boy Scout programs, historical restoration projects, and more. On the horizon, it is partnering with other community groups to improve libraries and forgotten slave cemeteries.

“Attending Harvard has been the biggest game-changer. I learned what enterprise value was, how to grow it, and what changes I needed to make to be a better leader. We have defined our culture, and more importantly -embraced it at the top. We have developed Balanced Score Cards, KPIs, and OKRs. We hold people accountable, train them, empower them, give them a voice, and ensure balance in their lives.
