Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their place in the IPL 2023 playoffs with an eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at their home ground on Sunday, May 21. This win made MI the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs.

MI’s qualification was officially confirmed when Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in the final group-stage match of IPL 2023. Unfortunately for RCB, this loss ended their hopes of making it to the playoffs.

In the preceding matches, GT became the first team to secure a spot in the knockout stage by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs. They will now aim to win consecutive titles in the tournament.

On Saturday, May 20, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) booked their place in the IPL 2023 playoffs with a convincing 77-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC).

Simultaneously, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) experienced a nail-biting finish as they clinched a one-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on the same day.

Both CSK and LSG finished the group stage with 17 points from 14 matches. However, CSK secured the second spot in the standings due to their superior net run rate (NRR).
