Hangzhou, September 25, 2023 – India’s shooting contingent got off to a blazing start at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou as the Indian Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team secured a historic gold medal, marking India’s first gold at the prestigious event. The trio of Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar not only claimed gold but also shattered the world record in the 10m Air Rifle Team event.

In a thrilling competition, the Indian shooters faced a minor setback in the initial series, with Rudrankksh and Divyansh posting scores of 104.8, while Aishwary scored 104.1. However, they quickly regained their form, steadily improving their scores in the subsequent series. By the sixth series, they had not only recovered but also surpassed the previous world record set by China at the Baku World Championship, amassing a remarkable total of 1893.7 points.

Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil emerged as the standout performer among the Indian shooters, securing a third-place finish in the qualification round with an impressive score of 632.5 points. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar finished fifth with a score of 631.6 points. Divyansh Singh Panwar, with a final score of 629.6, earned his spot in the final round, although he won’t be eligible for an individual medal as only two shooters from a National Olympic Committee (NOC) can advance to the final stage.

The excitement continues as Indian shooters Rudrankksh and Aishwary will now compete for the three individual podium places at 9 AM IST.

On the opening day of the Asian Games 2023, the Indian contingent showcased their prowess across various disciplines, concluding the day with an impressive tally of five medals – three silver and two bronze. In the women’s 10m air rifle team event, Ashi Chouksey, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ramita Jindal secured India’s first medal of the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, winning a silver in shooting.
