New Delhi, October 28: Microsoft has introduced a Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) for eligible employees in four countries, giving those who choose to leave financial support and career transition help. The offer covers eligible employees in participating teams in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and the United States at level 70 and below.
What Microsoft said
Chief people officer Amy Coleman said the offer is aimed at employees who may be considering a future outside the company, giving them a new choice to make that transition now with support. She added that it also gives participating organisations another way to adapt their workforce to changing needs.
It is a time-limited, voluntary programme offering financial support and career planning resources. Eligible employees will receive an email with a link to their individual offer details.
Not every team is included
The offer is not company-wide. Some organisations are providing it and some are not, depending on each business’s priorities, customer commitments and workforce needs. Individual exit terms and benefits depend on eligibility.
How many people could be affected
Business Standard’s report put the number of eligible employees globally at around 60,000. In India, the picture is less clear. Microsoft has around 23,000 employees in the country, but the number eligible for the programme remains unclear. Eligible Indian employees reportedly have until December 1 to decide.
Not a layoff, but part of a pattern
Coleman described the VEO as “new for us” and said the company will learn from it, building on what Microsoft learned earlier this year through its Voluntary Retirement Program.
Microsoft has not called this a layoff. Employees who accept would be leaving by choice, though the offer comes as companies across the tech industry are reshaping their workforces.
