BCCI plans to launch Women’s IPL in 2023: Reports

BCCI plans to launch Women’s IPL in 2023: Reports

By Sanjay Maurya

BCCI secretary Jay Shah informed that the money raised from the e-auction will be mainly used to improve cricket in India. He said that the board intends to start a full women’s IPL in 2023 and is working on it. The Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for the 2023-2027 cycle have been sold, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The board stated that it earned a whopping INR 48,390.32 crore, making IPL the world’s second-richest sports league.

The winners of the e-auctions received warm greetings from Jay Shah, the BCCI’s general secretary. “It makes me very happy and proud that IPL has grown to what it is today. The e-auction today has propelled the IPL to the big leagues in terms of media rights value per match. We ensured that the process is transparent and fair to all stakeholders. I congratulate all the winners and thank the bidders for participating in the e-auction process,” Shah said in a statement.

Shah went on to say that the money raised during the e-auction will mostly be used to improve cricket in India. He stated that the board intends to introduce a full-fledged women’s IPL in 2023 and is actively working on it. “The whole idea is to balance cricket and commercial interests as BCCI is committed to developing sports in the country through cricket.” The money we get from media rights will go to grassroots cricket in India, and that is what matters in the end. The BCCI is also dedicated to launching the Women’s IPL in 2023, as well as providing the best possible possibilities for women’s cricket in the country,” Shah said.

When Sourav Ganguly took over as BCCI president in late 2019, he set a four-year goal for the tournament’s inauguration, but he said we need more women players to get it off the ground. In India, there are currently 1,100 female players registered, and Ganguly appears to have met his goal. Earlier this year, he indicated that the Women’s franchise tournament would begin in early 2023.
