Early Life

Rinku Singh was born in a poor family of five siblings. His father worked as an LPG delivery man and his brother drove an auto-rickshaw. Rinku had a passion for cricket since childhood and used to play with a tennis ball near his house. He also considered taking up a job as a sweeper to support his family, but ran away from home to pursue his dream of becoming a cricketer.

Domestic Career

He started playing for Uttar Pradesh at various age-group levels and impressed everyone with his aggressive batting style. He made his List A debut at the age of 16 and scored 83 runs in his first match. He also made his first-class debut in 2016 and became the leading run-scorer for Uttar Pradesh in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy with 953 runs in 10 matches.

At the Under-19 level, he represented Central Zone, and at the Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 levels, he represented Uttar Pradesh. In March 2014, at the age of 16, he played his first game of List A cricket for Uttar Pradesh and finished first on the team in scoring with 83. He made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy during the 2016–17 season on November 5, 2016.

He led Uttar Pradesh in run making during the group stage of the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy with 803 runs in nine games. He scored 953 runs in ten games to take home the title.

IPL Career so far

He got his first IPL break in 2017 when he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 10 lakhs. He did not, however, have many chances to express his talent. He was then picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 for Rs. 80 lakhs and became a regular member of their middle order.

On May 30, 2019, Singh was given a three-month suspension by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for competing in the Ramadan T20 Tournament in Abu Dhabi without a permit.

Rinku had to leave the 2021 Indian Premier League due to a knee injury, and Gurkeerat Singh Mann was brought in to fill his spot. During the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League in February 2022, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders. He won his maiden Man of the Match trophy in this year’s tournament match against Rajasthan Royals, scoring 42 runs in 23 balls with a strike rate of 182.61.
