RTB Ferments
Setting New Standards For Health And Purity
With the tremendous evolution that science has seen over the last two decades, the scientific community now has a better understanding of how the bacteria in our gut influence human health. There is an increasing awareness worldwide of the role the gut microbiome may play in diagnosis, and how it can be modulated to treat disease and allay symptoms. They can affect overall human health, in particular in the low and middle-income countries. RTB Ferments has a product backed up by science and research, and a vision to enhance health and well-being of people across the globe.
Company Overview
In 2020, Ashwani and Samta, childhood friends and best mates, came up with the concept for RTB Ferments. Small-town friends, the two of them set out to change the world amid this pandemic with little money and a big dream. They are working to add probiotics to more common foods. The goal is to spread knowledge and the incredible probiotic’s gift of health to everyone across the world.
Samta, the Co-Founder of RTB Ferments, is a registered Fitness and Nutrition Coach. Formally a Software professional with Bachelor’s degree in the Medical Stream and 12 years’ experience in IT based out of New Jersey, she is on a revolutionary mission — to spread awareness to heal you from the inside, as it’s the inside that matters the most; to educate on how to avoid a wide array of disorders and illnesses by focusing on supporting gut health.
“We are committed to your overall well-being; We will show you how to take the reins of this power and use it to achieve your goals and become empowered!” Ashwani, Co-Founder, on the other hand, is a Man on Wheels. Called so because of quindecennial experience in Logistics and being indefatigable, he goes out of his way to help people. His vision is to create an ecosystem for all ages, talents, or skills to create a better world.
He believes that acts of kindness in workplaces improve productivity, teamwork, and reciprocity. Their main concerns are the wellbeing of both people and the environment. Under the brand name RTB (Redefining Taste Buds), they concentrate on producing the highest-quality probiotic beverage, kombucha. Their brewing, company procedures, and distribution strategy have the lowest carbon footprint and are designed to have a low impact on the planet. Full of probiotics, healthy acids and antioxidants that people need to be their best “gut” selves.
They are spreading awareness among healthcare professionals and the general public about the importance of the gut microbiome to overall health and how it can be altered to treat disease. They have compiled a wide range of tools and materials, including webinars, instructions, articles from professional viewpoints, and more. They provide educational content, blog, and spread awareness on social media.
They continue to refine the product to reduce the sugar level further down and no compromise on quality is winning the faith of their clients. When it comes to clients, they are aiming at all age groups at a national level. Their main objective is to raise public awareness. They have begun distributing their product at prime local spots to leave their mark, and soon they will also have an online presence.
Their goal is to be available to kids and elders too so that they have the best immune systems and not compromised ones. The products are available in retail stores such as Cooks Corner-Elante Mall in Chandigarh, Rudy’s Bistro Bar Chandigarh, Dharamkot, Kasol, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana.
What Sets Them Apart
Kombucha is a difficult product to scale up, as the process of creation is so long (3–4 weeks), whereas the actual brewing initially can be done in a day. Hiring a large facility, then, becomes a far more complicated process. There’s also the issue of the fact kombucha is live, so needs to be refrigerated below 5 degrees to stop it from over-fermenting, a process which a lot of distributors don’t have the means to handle as they need a shelf-stable product.
Most kombucha bottles in shops aren’t actually alive anymore, so they’ve lost that probiotic element, and the organic acids which are beneficial to your health along with it. They don’t ever want to have to compromise that, and so it’s going to be an exciting challenge and the RTB team has found a solution, too. They installed an in-house refrigeration system to retain good live beneficial bacteria.
Kombucha is an ancient drink, which has gained prominence due to its health benefits. The growing awareness of the product has transformed household workers into commercial product producers. The employment rate has also increased in this region. The market in this area is gaining attention and is expected to grow at a double-digit figure.
Redefining Taste Buds hold themselves to a higher consumer standard than required by the rules and regulations. They have their own in-house lab, team, and quality control system designed by certified nutritionists, qualified lab scientists Masters of Science, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Physics.
They monitor the content of yeast and bacteria genetics. Their lab experts have fermentation science backgrounds. They test batches every single day to ensure safety pH, Specific Gravity and Alcohol levels. They believe so strongly in this that they also verify their own results every 8-12 weeks with a third-party laboratory to make sure the products are health and market compliant. Being honest with their end user is their priority, and they feel that food labeling, macronutrients, micro nutrients, ethical sourcing, and safe production must be approached with honesty. If that means going beyond the mandates of regulatory bodies, that’s what it means.
Their fermentation is unique:
- Cold brew
- Low Sugar
- Organic
- Diabetic and Kids-friendly
- Each batch is tested
- Protein packed with all essential amino acids- As per RDA
Achievements and Future Plans
RTB has proved itself to be the best in the North Indian region so far. RTB Ferments will be representing India in the International Fermentation Conference to be held in Chicago, USA ( Aug 28- Aug 30, 2022). Making kombucha sustainably isn’t for fun, it’s for our future. They take the health of people, of their community, and of the earth seriously and believe that they can make and sell kombucha in a way that supports their vision of sustainability.
From the beginning, concern for their carbon footprint has been a prime concern; decisions in this regard have profoundly shaped the business. They think about land stewardship when they evaluate their ingredients, so their sugar and tea are organic, and some of their tea is grown on farms in Himachal Pradesh- Palampur that are biodynamic as well. They compost their themed tea and old SCOBYs, and they make many smaller decisions on a daily basis that reflect their commitment to the health of the natural world.
Parting Words
“Our time is limited on earth, we come with expiry dates so we should not waste it in living someone else’s life. Don’t worry about being successful but work toward being significant and the success will naturally follow. Timing, perseverance, patience, hard work and ten years of trying will eventually make you look like an overnight success. So do not be scared. Chase the vision, not the money; the money will end up following you.”
