He was the executive vice president of Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise group before becoming CEO, and was in charge of designing and overseeing the company’s computing platforms.

In October 2014, Nadella found himself amidst controversy after making a statement at an event on Women in Computing, suggesting that women should not ask for raises but instead trust the system. This statement received widespread criticism, prompting Nadella to swiftly apologize on Twitter and later send an email to Microsoft employees admitting his error and acknowledging that he was “completely wrong.”

Throughout his tenure, Nadella has fostered collaboration with companies and technologies that are in competition with Microsoft, including Apple Inc., Salesforce, IBM, and Dropbox. Nadella declared “Microsoft Linux,” departing from prior campaigns against the Linux operating system, and in 2016, Microsoft became a Platinum member of the Linux Foundation.

Personal Life:

Nadella married Anupama in 1992. She is the daughter of his father’s IAS batchmate. Anupama was his junior at Manipal, where he was studying for a B.Arch in the Faculty of Architecture. The couple, who live in Clyde Hill and Bellevue, Washington, had three children: a son and two girls. His son Zain had cerebral palsy, was a quadriplegic, and was also legally blind. Zain passed away in February 2022 at the age of 26.

Nadella enjoys reading poetry, especially American and Indian poetry. Having played on his school team, he also enjoys cricket with a passion. The Seattle Sounders FC, a Major League Soccer team, is owned by Nadella and his wife Anupama.
