A great persona has once quoted, “Information technology has been one of the leading drivers of Globalization, and it may also become one of its major victims.” IT sector has always been a focal point for the government of India in the journey of growth and development of the country. Hence, the GOI has successfully built and established various IIITs and management institutions across the big cities of India and putting its efforts on the path of Globalization. But we are going to talk specifically about the first and foremost of them, ABV IIIM and Management in this fascinating read.

And here again, we feel honored to welcome our global readership with a marvelous tale of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Technology and Management. Our editorial team had a joyous interacting session with the director of the institute-Prof. Rajendra Sahu. He shared some valuable nuggets and interesting facts about the institute and himself with us that we are extremely excited to share with our readers. ABV Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management is an autonomous institute, which is established and expanded by the Ministry of HRD, GOI in Gwalior. It is the first IIIT established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 1997, as an initiative to boost information technology (IT) and IT-enabled management education and research in India-and has become of National importance by the Act of Parliament.
ABV – IIITM is at the vanguard of imparting superior quality technical and managerial education and pertinent skills in the areas of IT and management, situated in Gwalior, the northern part of Madhya Pradesh, it is an apex ISO 9001:2008 certified Institute and the only of its kind in the country. Other than having world-class state-of-the-art infrastructure, the institute is also professionally recognized, experienced, and filled with competent faculty. It has a strong and vibrant alumni base that is a transparent picture of its professionalism.
ABV-IIITM has a well-stocked library and numerous sports facilities along with a history of robust academic and research collaboration with universities in the US, France, and Japan. The institute, without any doubt, is a pioneer in organizing numerous training programs for its potential students.ABV-IIITM gives high priority to research and development projects sponsored by national agencies, along with academic research leading to doctoral degree. The research funding received from MHRD, ICSSR and DST, SERB has helped in supporting and enhancing academic research and quality of teaching

- Research Work
The institute gives its prime priority to R & D projects sponsored by national agencies, along with academic research leading to a doctoral degree. The research funding received from MHRD, ICSSR, and DST, SERB has helped the institute in supporting and enhancing academic research and quality of teaching in a great way. In the current year, the institute sanctioned 10 distinct projects by numerous giant funding agencies.
The institute continues to lead in Scopus-listed publications amongst centrally funded IIITs with 1200+ publications as in the past, its faculty members have got interesting and competitive project funding from various agencies.
- International collaborations
The institute has numerous international collaborations for papers, projects, mentors, and authors with foreign universities/institutions like Liverpool Hope University (UK), Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, Yonsei University, South Korea, University of Bologna Italy, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and many more.
- Infrastructure
The institute has a quality infrastructure in terms of buildings, equipment, and other IT facilities and is spreading over 150 acres-this includes about 5 acres constructed and the rest green land.
Facilities provided by ABV-IIITM
The Institute is a residential campus that includes the specific blocks for administration, academics, library, a hostel for girls and boys, and family quarters for faculty, officers, and staff. The whole green campus is built on 150-acres, accommodates competent faculty and state-of-the-art labs. The campus is self-contained with all the basic amenities, needed for students, staff, and faculty.
In addition to this, the institute provides other excellent facilities to the students such as two battery-operated Golf carts for easy movement of visitors and campus residents-and wheel Chairs in Hostels and dispensaries. In addition to this, they also provide ramps at LRC, ATM, Entry, and other places on the campus.
Moreover, The ABV-IIITM library has a rich collection of books and journals. The institute subscribes to this consortium which provides the student a wide repository of knowledge through journals and industrial databases like IEEE, EBSCO, CME, AB, ACM Digital Library, IEL Online, J Gate Engineering and Technology, Pro-Quest Science Journals, and Springer Verlag’s links.
The library is well stocked with texts and references in the area of Management, IT, Computer Science, Networking, Social Science along with industry-related research papers and project reports. The library has a rich collection of 15,000+ references and textbooks on a wide range of topics. The library also subscribes to 200 journals, periodicals, and magazines in the area of IT and Management with a vision to provide better resources to students.
The institute has laboratories required for various courses related to IT, Management, and Applied Sciences. The laboratory facilities are continuously being enhanced to cater to the ever-expanding academic and research needs. Various IT tools are used in functional areas like marketing research, decision support system, operational research, and others. These laboratories have housed more than four hundred Pentium-based computer systems of different markets such as Compaq, Digital, HCLSilicon Graphics, etc. There are many servers at present to cater to various computing needs of the institute.
Together with academics, sports are given adequate importance at ABV-IIITM. To encourage sporting activities, they have a full-fledged complex, and also games facilities in each of the students’ hostels. The team believes it is essential to remain physically fit and alert together with mental sharpness. In addition to proper infrastructure, several sporting events are held throughout the year to keep students physically and mentally engaged.
The director, Prof. Rajendra Sahu states, “The best equipment and materials have been used to construct this sports complex. Apart from this complex, there is an additional billiards room in Boys’ Hostel 1, an additional gymnasium in Girls’ Hostel, an additional tennis court, one cricket ground, and one football field. Students’ hostels are provided with badminton courts and table tennis boards. Also, Students interested in swimming may take the assistance of a trainer.”
Culmination
When our team requested Prof. Sahu to spill the beans of recognition to the institute, he replied by saying, “The contribution of our graduates to the community has been our strength. The most pleasing experience is that we are being recognized by both international and national agencies for our scientific and social contributions aligned with the vision and mission of the institute.”
