Amarnath Yatra 2022 temporarily suspended from the Pahalgam route amid bad weather

  • In south Kashmir today early morning, the 6th batch of over 6,300 Amarnath pilgrims had left for the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine.
  • Officials said 2,028 pilgrims heading for Baltal base camp were the 1st to leave in 88 vehicles around 3.35 am.
  • The second convoy of 151 vehicles carrying 4,323 pilgrims also left for Pahalgam camp shortly thereafter.

The Amarnath Yatra, which began last week, was temporarily suspended from the Pahalgam route on Tuesday (July 5) morning amid inclement weather. The annual 43-day pilgrimage is held at two base camps – Nunwan in Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag and Baltal camp in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

The official said that the pilgrims would not be allowed to move from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam towards the naturally formed snow-Shivling cave temple. Earlier this morning, the sixth batch of over 6,300 Amarnath pilgrims left for the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir amid tight security. According to official data, a total of 6,351 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in a convoy of 239 vehicles amid tight security of CRPF.

Before starting on June 30, the journey was delayed by the coronavirus for two years. Since then, the Shiva temple has received more than 72,000 pilgrims who have prayed there. The yatra is set to end on August 11 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Capture wea Business Connect MagazineAn official said in this regard that due to bad weather, the pilgrims are not being allowed to proceed beyond the Nunwan base camp. Keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims, this decision has been taken. At present, there are about 3,000 pilgrims in the Nunwan camp.
