About e-RUPI
e-RUPI is a cashless digital payment solution sent to receivers’ mobile phones through SMS or QR code. On 2nd August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of e-RUPI, a cashless and contactless digital payment system.
Beneficiaries can utilize an e-RUPI to get a digital voucher that can be used for any government service. The government would provide digital tokens to residents via SMS strings or QR codes to be used for a specific purpose.
The e-RUPI voucher would benefit everyone in targetted, transparent, and leakage-free delivery,” Prime Minister Modi stated at the launch event.
It is an example of how India is using modern technology to go forward and connect people in the twenty-first century, said the prime minister.
He also stated that non-government organizations, as well as the government, can use this digital payment solution instead of donating cash to help someone with their education or medical care.
In July, through UPI more than 300 crore transactions were made, totaling over INR 6 lakh crore, according to PM Modi, who also stated that the government is using the direct-benefit transfer to deliver benefits to beneficiaries of 300 programmes ranging from LPG to rations to pensions.
According to the PMO, it is intended to be a game-changing effort aimed at guaranteeing the delivery of leak-proof welfare services. It can also be used to deliver services under programmes such as the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, which provides drugs and nutritional support to mothers and children, TB eradication programmes, drugs and diagnostics under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and fertilizer subsidies, among others.
