CSK vs GT IPL 2023 Final Highlights: Sir Jadeja’s Epic Finish Propels Chennai to 5th Trophy

Written by Sanjay Kumar

In an exhilarating showdown against the Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the Chennai Super Kings secured their fifth IPL title, thereby equaling the record set by the Mumbai Indians, who have also won the tournament five times. Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the hero of the match, smashing a six and a four off the last two balls. Despite rain affecting the final of the 2023 Indian Premier League, both CSK and GT ensured an unforgettable clash for the championship.

With just one over remaining in what is widely regarded as the most remarkable IPL season, CSK required 13 runs to secure victory. Mohit Sharma, who had been outstanding for the Titans throughout the season, rattled the Super Kings by dismissing Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni. However, Ravindra Jadeja exhibited composure under pressure and delivered two of the most crucial shots in CSK’s history, propelling them to their fifth IPL title.

IPL 2023 Final: Quick Stats

  • In a blistering display of batting, the Gujarat Titans posted an imposing total of 214/4 on the scoreboard.
  • However, rain interrupted the match when it was Chennai Super Kings turn to bat in the second innings. After a two-hour delay, the game resumed with a revised target calculated using the DLS method.
  • CSK faced the challenge of chasing 171 runs in 15 overs. The team got off to a fantastic start, amassing 52 runs during the powerplay. However, towards the end, GT gained momentum as Mohit Sharma dismissed Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni on consecutive deliveries.
  • After a nail-biting finish in the last two overs, CSK emerged victorious, propelled by Ravindra Jadeja’s magnificent performance.
  • With this victory, the Chennai Super Kings secured their fifth IPL title, solidifying MS Dhoni’s status as the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League.
  • Despite being 41 years old, MSD is showing no signs of slowing down and intends to return for another IPL season if all goes well.
  • Going from finishing in the bottom two on the points table in 2022 to becoming champions in 2023, CSK exemplifies why it is regarded as one of the greatest IPL franchises of all time. This remarkable feat would not have been possible without the exceptional leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
