DCGI has given Serum Institute permission to produce Covid’s Sputnik V vaccine
The Serum Institute of India vaccine maker now received approval from the India Drugs Controller General (DCGI) to manufacture the Sputnik V jab for testing, examination, and analysis just days after applying to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
Sputnik V was developed in the Pune-based firm’s licensed Hadapsar facility in collaboration with Russia’s Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
“The DCGI has granted the Serum Institute permission to manufacture the Sputnik COVID-19 vaccine in the country for testing of the vaccine, examination of vaccine, and analysis as well at its licensed Hadapsar facility, subject to certain criteria,” an official stated.
On 3rd June, the company submitted an application to the DCGI in this approach. According to the DCGI’s four criteria, the Serum Institute must present a copy of its agreement with the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology for the transfer of cell bank and viral stock, as well as a copy of its agreement with Gamaleya for technology transfer.
According to the reports, on May 18 the Indian vaccine maker also applied to the Department of Biotechnology’s Review Committee on Genetic Manipulation (RCGM) for permission to import strains/seed lots and cell banks, as well as to conduct research and development.
According to news reports, the Russian vaccine would be given in two doses separated by 21 days. The two doses of Sputnik V have a 91 percent efficacy rate, whereas the single dose has a 79.4 percent efficacy rate, according to Gamaleya.
