Mukesh Ambani – Person of the Month
Mukesh Ambani, whose full name is Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, was born on April 19, 1957, in Aden, Yemen. He is an Indian business magnate and the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the largest subsidiary of the Reliance Group, an Indian energy and materials conglomerate.
Ambani was one of Dhirubhai Ambani’s four children, who started off as a gas station attendant. The family left Aden, where Mukesh was born, in 1958 and moved to the Bhuleshwar neighbourhood of Bombay (now Mumbai), where they resided in a chawl, due to the country’s political atmosphere becoming more insecure (a communal building that commonly features low-rent two-room apartments).
The Reliance Commercial Corporation, which evolved into RIL from a commodity trading operation that was initially run out of a one-room rented facility, was established by Dhirubhai and a relative in the same year.
