Popular stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava passed away at 58. The news about his demise was confirmed by his family. The comedian passed away at 10.20 am after 41 days of hospitalization. Raju was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on August 10 following chest pain and collapsed during a workout at the gym. He underwent angioplasty on the same day and was put on ventilator.

“I got a call from the family about half an hour ago saying he is no more. It is really unfortunate news. He was fighting in the hospital for over 40 days,” his brother Deepu Srivastava told PTI. Raju Srivastava is survived by his wife Shikha and two children Ayushmann and Antara.

Born on 25 December 1963 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, his innate comedic talent was noticed as a young boy. Art was in his blood, as his father Ramesh Chandra Srivastava, popularly known as ‘Balai Kaka’, was a renowned Hindi poet. According to a report in Zee News, when he came to Mumbai, he drove an auto for a while until he got a job in films. The report also mentioned that when he was struggling, he would also do stand-up comedy shows for Rs 50.

He became a household name after participating in the comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Raju Srivastava is very popular for his stage character ‘Gajodhar Bhaiya’. He appeared in Hindi films like “Maine Pyar Kiya”, “Baazigar”, “Bombay to Goa” (remake), and “Aamdani Athani Kharcha Rupaiya”.

He participated in many TV shows like Comedy Nights with Kapil, Comedy Ka Maha Muqabala, Bigg Boss Season 3, Nach Baliye Season 6, and more. He was the president of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council. Srivastava joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 19 March 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated him to be a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
